Editorial of the Moment: Wild Thangs

In homage to the depressingly themed kid movie "Where the Wild Things Are," V magazine showed a fashion editorial that some might say is red herring.

Wild, in all its essence and connotation, has something to do with savagery and survival instincts. This spread, however, only shows half-naked men against perfectly clothed women. Where are the forests? The foliage? The deadly animals? Whether this is an artistic interpretation of
wild, or otherwise, is still in question.

Nevertheless, nudity in fashion is not so otherworldly as, say, nudity in television. In a male-driven society, it is typical to see naked women portrayed in media. But as society tries to equalize and balance male vs. female perspectives, I'm sure that male nudity will be considered un-taboo.

But do women really want that?

i dont get the "wild" in that photo, it would have been more understandable if they did the same exact pose but in a forest background with animals, this photo doesnt give me a "wild" perspective

wild in bed perhaps o_O

That is so not wild. I've seen wilder editorials than that. Wild in a sense that the models' poses are kind of suggestive even if they have clothes on. I would've understand more if they are wearing animal prints or something like that, that could've been "wild" in the sense that they are portraying wild animals.

Hahaha, maybe trish's right..Wild Thangs meant wild in bed. Naughty Trish! :P

HA! I like that idea Trish. Maybe that's the reason why them men are covered in bed sheets!

Still I would've preferred if they showed wilderness.

I don't get the wild in that photo although I do think that it's great that they are trying to even things up a bit in the nakedness department. I mean it's probably not everyone's cup of tea but at least its equal exploitation. Or maybe that's just me. hmmm...or maybe I am just crapping. I am really unsure...

0_0 i'm still looking for the wild in this picture lol! i think they jut wanted to use a spread of half-naked men and the theme's probably just an excuse for doing that. or maybe 1 woman with 3 men is supposed to be wild dunnoooo haha

p.s yeah sure Nico ;) i'll cme over to hang out with you guys. and the fact that you guys are like halfway round the world from me right now is just a teeny little detail haha

Just came across your post after searching "naked men with clothed women" out of interest of whether images like this exist. This photo impressed me, because despite it's mediocrity as a "wild" photo, what it is trying to do is extremely admirable and breaks an ageold tradition of women being pictured typically naked or semi-nude amongst fully clothed men (see Manet's Le Dejeuner Sur L'herbe" in particular, and as someone has already mentioned, much of contemporary society's images feature nearnaked women in photographs and paintings. Sure the portrayal of the nude male has always existed, but very rarely are the naked men juxtaposed with clothed females. This is a 'wild' statement because for once, even though it is modeling, the woman in the picture is the least sexually objectified object, compared to her male counterparts.
