The FDA has finally declared Cheerios as drugs!
Well, not exactly.
Remember the Cheerios commercial--the one claiming that eating a bowl of Cheerios can "lower cholesterol and treat heart disease"? Well, it turns out that the FDA wasn't very happy with this assertion since this claim is only reserved for FDA-approved medication. And as far as I know, Cheerios ain't prescription drugs. At least, not yet.
So what's General Mills, the maker of Cheerios, to do? Well for starters, don't advertise false claims! And second, encourage your customer base that a high fiber (that's where Cheerios come in), fruits, vegetables and a low saturated fat diet paired with exercise can help reduce the risk of heart disease.
And to think cereal boxes are the last to lie to us.
